Just to let NENA members know, I contacted Pam Castillo, who works for the City of Albuquerque's Transportation Department. She did some homework and verified that the intersection of Florence and Ventura is within city jurisdiction and forwarded my expressed concerns about that intersection up the chain of command.

I received a call this afternoon ( I was driving, so I didn't get a name) that reassured me that the city was "looking into it", "aware of the problem", and that "everyone involved with that intersection has been asked to look into it". When I asked for specifics, I did not get any. When I asked for a timeline, I did not get one. When I asked who all was involved with that intersection, no names were forthcoming.

The gentleman I spoke with has promised to follow up with the DRB to see which traffic engineer is involved in the construction project at North Star and to find out what the plans are for the intersection. He has promised to get back with me.

As it exists now, there is a serious line of sight issue for children who will be crossing the street at that intersection once North Star opens.

I will keep you updated on the progress of getting some real answers and commitments from the city to take care of this issue before the school opens and children are put at risk.

Sincerely,

Lisa Abeyta
