[NENA] Spam, Virus, and Trojans

Dear Nor Este Members,

We have recently had a rash of messages that were attempting to be sent to
the board and members mailing lists containing a Trojan payload. Should one
open the attachment to the message, your computer would most likely become
infected. The mailing list software system has been catching these for me
to delete so they have not been sent on to the lists. The reason I write is
the addresses for the list may have been picked up from someone on the list
who's computer may already been infected. That is how many spam programs
harvest email addresses.

Some rules to protect your computer:

1) Run a virus protection program - there are many good ones out there
such as Microsoft OneCare, Macaffe, Symantec, Panda, etc.

Here is a review of some of the more popular ones:

Here is a good article for background or if you think your computer might be
infected.

2) NEVER open an attachment sent from someone you don't know. If you
do know them, make sure they sent it to you.

3) Only download and install software from reputable sources.

4) Stay out of "bad neighborhoods" on the internet - you know what I'm
talking about.

Best regards,

Paul Grunwald
