There's a report in July 4 ABQ Journal - "City Gets Tough on Fireworks". ? I tried to grab it off http://ww.abqjournal.com to send to you, but the Journal webmaster did not post the report. So, here's my summary: ? It's not only illegal to shoot-off fireworks that are louder than a cap gun, or shoot-off fireworks?higher than 10 feet or shoot-out more than 6 feet --- it's illegal to possess these fireworks. Possessing these illegal fireworks will?result in?up to 90 days in jail, and a $500 fine. ABQ Fire Chief Robert Ortega said, "We want to make a bigger impact this year on people who use and have illegal fireworks." Firefighters wrote 20 citations on?July 1-2, most for possession. APD has hundreds of officers scheduled to work overtime this weekend. One additional thing they will be looking for is illegal fireworks. ? Report illegal fireworks - call 311. ? If any of these fireworks?come down?on a flat roof house, they're hot enough to start a fire. ? John -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I called 311 Friday night to file complaint about illegal fireworks coming from North Oakland Court, which is about 3 streets east of Barstow on Oakland. The 311 operator gave me a number for fire marshall. ? I walked-up Oakland to see what was going on. The homeowners on North Oakland Court had blocked-off the street, must have been 25-30 cars parked on Oakland near North Oakland Court, and they were lighting-up some industrial strength fireworks. It was like a war zone. ? I made the call at about 9:30 pm. A firetruck showed up about 10:30 pm, it drove west on Oakland, then back east to Barstow, turned south on Barstow and left the nighborhood. ? I called again at 11:30 pm to file same complaint. Nothing happened. ? July 5 the North Oakland Court started up again. I called fire marshall again. Nothing happened. ? The newspaper report I emailed to NENA morning of 4th said to call 311 with complaints and they would send police and fire marshalls. I called 311 and they just gave me another number for fire marshall. ? This sucks. Does anyone know the families who live on North Oakland Court? Are they part of the association? Can we talk to them about this so it doesn't happen again? ? It's hard to believe that reasonable homeowners who are aware of current?fire dangers, as well as?these ordinances?would risk harming their neighbors and getting fines or jail time. ? The other thing that bugs is?someone would have to be deaf, blind and dumb not to have noticed what families on North Oakland Court were doing July 4-5, yet the fire truck drove in the opposite direction. What's up with that? ? I called 311 and was told the fireworks number, on calling that one, they asked me for the exact address, I said I did not know the exact address as I lived on R C Gorman, but it is on Modesto between Wyoming and Barstow, very few houses there and practically all of them, but this one, quiet, and it is very obvious as there are 30-50 cars parked in front (I am now pretty sure the exact address of most of the activities was 7911 Modesto). I called around 9:20. I asked them when I should expect someone checking into that to which the dispatcher responded that as I don't know the exact address, and they have so many calls, he was not sure (if they would get to it at all) but he would forward my info!!! At that time they were going pretty intensely, and I asked him if he can hear it on the speakerphone, I was inside my house and anyone outside would have noticed/heard/felt it with ease. He said he heard it... I did not see anyone checking it, and I was checking until 11:30 pm.
