Brief Minutes Of The June, 3rd NENA General
Membership Meeting
Jeff Peterson opened the meeting with discussion about the new dental office
planned for the NW corner of Wyoming and Alameda. NENA was not required to
be notified, only Quail Ridge. A rendering and blue print of the building
was passed around, it is a single story building.
The "temporary" cell phone tower located next to the Bank of Albuquerque was
determined to be allowed because of a loophole in the zoning that requires
replacement of towers providing 911 service. This "temporary" situation is
supposed to be resolved within 6 months, and be relocated to Paseo Crossing
shopping area. and New technology will dramatically reduce the fotprint of
the permanent tower.
An update on the progress of the La Cueva channel crossing talked about the
relocation of a gas service line that appeared during construction. This
work was to be done 6/4, with project completion slated for 6/18. There are
3 lots located on the west side of Wyoming that are owned by AMAFCA that
will most likely be sold for development. It was proposed that the city
could buy the lots to create another bus parking (staging) area. Jeff
Peterson will talk to the city regarding this.
Todd Resch, the Principal at Desert Ridge Middle School joined us and told
about the goals of the school to be a good neighbor. The 11 year old school
has grown from 650 students to around 1100, and his main concern is with
security within and around the school property. He is limited in security
staff, but is adding people as well as a new security camera system. His
goal is to try to reduce traffic by moving the drop off/pick-up areas. As
the only middle school to get passing grades in the "no student left behind"
program, he was given 85 transfer students from around the city, creating a
very diverse student body. Todd can be reached at resch at aps.edu
Lisa Abeyta had an idea for a community festival to be centered around our
latest improvements in the area, mainly our new dog park. A group was
formed to see if we could do a dog themed neighborhood party at the dog park
area, and get some financial help from the city.
Teresa Reinhard talked about the green belt improvements that have been made
by the city. It was pointed out that there was still a lot of dog droppings
near the new Barstow bridge, and it will be looked into to see if we can
relocate a "clean up bag" stand to the area.
Paul Grunwald gave a Treasurers report. We have a current budget of $7321.
with a current paid membership of only 17 members. The Community Party would
be used as a membership drive. He also made a motion to move our web
hosting service, which was unanimously approved.
Jeff Peterson re-visited the Barstow bridge fallout, citing angry
"neighbors" who didn't feel that NENA should speak for them. They didn't
show to state their case.
Jeff also spoke of re-starting letters to home owners not complying with our
CCR's; trailers, weeds,RV's etc. Please let Jeff know if you have a problem
neighbor. Jeff's attempt to strike a deal with the new Alameda Storage was
for naught as they have no available spaces for trailers/RV's
Jeff also spoke about his position on the city's 21st Century Transportation
Task Force and asked for input on mass transportation. A really cool 30 foot
tall monorail was proposed, and was taken under consideration. Bike trails
were also discussed.
The next meeting will be a Board Meeting on Tuesday Sept. 2nd.
Respectfully Submitted, Mike Vihstadt vihstadt at swcp.com
