BRIEF MINUTES OF THE MARCH 5 NENA GENERAL
MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Brief discussion regarding filling the vacant Secty position. No resolution
at the March 5 meeting but E-mails today indicate that Michael Vistadt has
graciously volunteered to take on the duties. YEAH MICHAEL
Considerable discussion regarding rumor that Barstow Bridge over the arroyo
may be built. NENA has officially opposed such construction for years and
will continue to do so. Lisa Abeyta will contact Brad Bingham (AMAFCA) and
also Brad Winter our City Councilor, to investigate the matter and reiterate
NENA opposition.
Jeff Peterson briefly reported on the replacement of shrubbery and
landscaping around the NENA park monument. Should be nice when finished.
In addition Jeff will contact Teresa Reinhard regarding coordinating the the
annual clean-up with City activity and send out the necessary e-mails and
signs.
Paul Grunwald presented the Treasurer's report...balance of $6976. Paul
also noted that he needs 2 Board members to sign for check writing authority
at the bank.
Extensive discussion ensued regarding our ongoing problem means to increase
NENA membership Suggestions included use of signs, a video on the website,
a banner sign on the website with a Q& A area, contacting small businesses
for sponsorship and support and advertising, and raising the charge for ads
in the Newsletter. NENA voted unanimously for Lisa Abeyta and Michele Logan
to contact NENA VPs regarding ideas for increasing membership, and to also
look into contacting Real Estate offices and Title Companies about including
NENA membership forms in their hand-out packets.
Michele Logan presented a comprehensive update on each of the schools in our
district. EG Ross has experienced some problems with AYSO Saturday soccer
as there are no "porta-potties" and some players were observed using the
sides of temporary classrooms. NENA will send a letter to AYSO and the CITY
requesting that AYSO pursue getting the city to provide "porta-potties" and
associated maintenance. Michele's report will be posted on the NENA
website.
The Newsletter vs Postcard option was discussed. NENA includes around 1800
homes. The relative cost of card vs newsletter is about the same .$650.
Consensus favored a newsletter.
Jeff Peterson and Teresa Reinhard will "re-start" surveying the NENA area
to identify "problem" yards with weeds, landscape problems, trash, trailers
and RVs in the front yard, and send a "tactful" letter to the homeowner
urging corrective action. In addition, Jeff will contact Alameda Storage to
see if NENA can get special discounts for storing RVs, trailers, and boats.
Jeff reported on the status of the planned box culvert construction on the
Wyoming and Eagle Rock arroyo crossing. The work was delayed because the
winning bid was contested. This has now been resolved and completion is
estimated by July 1. It was also reported that after the culverts are
completed, AMAFCA will have 2 lots at the Wyoming/Eagle Rock corner about
which they are apparently thinking about some development to provide income.
Lisa Abeyta will contact Brad Bingham at AMAFCA and Councilor Brad Winter to
determine what the zoning is on those lots and whether NENA needs to be
concerned.
Jeff noted that he has been appointed to the COA 21st Century Transportation
Task Force and would appreciate any input from NENA regarding
issues/concerns/ideas.
Gina Matinez provided a report on the I-25 Sector Plan which is due to the
EPC later this month. NENA and several District 4 NAs were actively
involved in contributing to the plan development and have a vested interest
in following its progress. (As I am an EPC commissioner, I had to leave the
meeting before this presentation or else I would have had to recuse myself
when it came before the EPC. Sorry)
The nest NENA meeting is a General Membership Meeting, June 3, Tuesday, FS
20, 7 PM
Respectfully Submitted
Joe Yardumian, FORMER SECTY, YEAH
