I believe both emails say the same thing which is basically that any design would not begin before 2009 due to funding.

So, we don't have to worry about this email below?

Subject: FW: [NENA] FW: More on Barstow

Note information below. Appears that any ongoing construction on Barstow is through the development process.

We do have funding in the 2007 Decade plan, starting in 2009 ($500,000) and continuing through 2015, for a total of $2,000,000.

We would start designing the bridge with approval of the 2009 funding.

We are available to meet to discuss further, but would suggest that you also invite the Planning Department.

  Let me know.

    This in today:

    Good Afternoon,
We do not have a crossing improvement in our Streets program at this
time for Barstow at the La Cueva Channel. The 2007-2016 Decade Plan
for Capital Improvements Projects included a potential improvement at
Barstow under the Storm Drainage bond listing. This crossing appears as
a potential project in the 2009 Bond program list. The list of projects
for funding with future bond sales will change, and I can't say at this
time if a Barstow crossing will be included when the issue is placed
before the voters. I will speak with the Storm Drainage Design Manager
when he gets back into the office later this week and we will discuss
the matter further. I will contact you after we have that conversation.

    Sincerely,
    Chuck Thompson

        All:

For the record, whilst the speculation and hearsay has been filling everyone's mailboxes, the NENA Board has been actively attempting to separate fact from fiction.
We have contacted Brad Winter who in turn contacted officials with the Department of Municipal Development who responded that design for the bridge would not even start until 2009. Additionally we contacted AMAFCA to attempt to uncover the root of this rumor. The Executive Engineer at AMAFCA said the Barstow Bridge was not yet on their radar.
Inasmuch, I concur with Lisa's assertion that there is time enough for us to get our arms around this in a systematic and concerted manner. The next General Meeting can focus on this issue and how best to move forward.
I thank each of you for being in tune to possible issues effecting our neighborhoods and ask that you stay not only in tune but involved. We don't want to squander this opportunity to bring the Association back together as a united front.
I look forward to you becoming/renewing members, your continued interest and involvement and seeing you at the next meeting.

        Jeff Peterson, President
